MY APPROACH

My approach to weddings…

Being a ‘documentary wedding photographer’ is very much on-trend within wedding photography at the moment. That’s not say that I have anything against that, in fact, on the contrary. I absolutely aim to use a documentarian-style approach to every wedding I photograph and it’s a huge part of how I work at every wedding that I’m lucky enough to be a part of. I want my images to be authentic, full of those real, true moments, that every wedding day is bursting full of, all with a cinematic twist on top, to take those memories to the next level photographically. As well as documentary wedding photography, sometimes this approach can also be called reportage wedding photography, or wedding photojournalism etc but it all means the same thing - being committed to telling your story, in a natural and authentic way. I really love fine art wedding photography too and am very much drawn to leading lines, light and shadow, symmetry & geometric framing influences in making my images. AND, of course, I absolutely love being able to photograph some cool portraits of my couples, after searching for the best locations and light, throughout the day. From the moment I arrive, I never stop looking, evaluating and visualising, to try to maximise every last bit of potential, out of every moment of the day.

I like to think that the images you've seen on my website stand out from the crowd a little and are maybe a little different to those you may have seen on a 'traditional wedding photographer's website. I always say that there are so many different weddings going on, all over the world, and there’s a photographer who’s right for every one of them!

You may ask, does this mean that you don't photograph any posed family group photos on the day, or any of those special details that we've spent so many late nights creating? The answer is, of course I do all of those things too! They are all part of the story of your day and are very important to the overall narrative. I just won't be making you and your guests strike cheesy poses all day long, or try to contrive any moments unnaturally. One of the best compliments I can get from my wedding couples is, "we didn't even notice you were there." - what a documentary wedding photographer is all about!
