F A Q s

{Where are you based?} We live about 5 minutes walk from the coast, near Scarborough, in Yorkshire, England.

{Will you travel outside of Yorkshire to photograph our wedding?} In a word, yes! I photograph weddings all over the UK and abroad. Travel & accommodation fees do apply for overseas wedding adventures.

{How long have you been a wedding photographer?} I photographed my first wedding in 2010 and since then have photographed hundreds weddings, across Yorkshire, the rest of the UK and abroad.

{Will it be you that photographs our wedding?} Absolutely! I use no ‘associate photographers’ and don’t sub-contract any of my work out, including the editing process.

{How many images do we get?} Usually 500+, although it’s likely that you’ll get in excess of 500 images. Rest assured, I won’t be filling up your collection with loads of duplicates of the same frame, just to meet a predetermined quota. I can guarantee that you get all of the very best stuff and a lot of it!

{How do we book you?} If you’d like to book, then that’s really great news! It’s really good to chat first, so I usually suggest we catch up over Zoom (or an old-fashioned phone call!), so I can answer any questions that you both might have. Signature of an online booking form and payment of a £750 deposit secures your date with me.

{After booking, how do we discuss our wedding day plans with you?} Firstly, I’m always available to catch up and discuss all things wedding, so feel free to get in touch at any time! Approximately 8 weeks before the day, I send you both a link to complete an online questionnaire. This form covers everything I might need to know about your day, from your itinerary, to your group photos. Of course, if you would like this sending over any earlier, or want to chat over any part of your day in person, then that’s absolutely no problem.

{When is the remaining balance due?} I usually send out remaining balance invoices about 8 weeks before your wedding, with payment due any time up to 6 weeks before the day. If you would like to pay any earlier, then that’s absolutely fine. Whatever works best for your both.

{How long do you stay on the wedding day?} I offer all day coverage, from the pre-wedding preparations, through until after the first dance. Without sounding too cliched, every wedding is completely unique and so I’ve found it doesn’t really help to have a package for a set number of hours. I’m there as early as you need me in the morning and certainly won't be saying my “goodbyes!” the second that first dance comes to a close (if you’re having one) I LOVE to be able to capture the fun of a full, rocking dance floor before I leave, so get that playlist in place from the off and I’m there!

{Do you take family group photos?} Of course! Whilst 95% of what I’m doing throughout the day is completely natural and un-staged, I absolutely understand the importance of those family group shots. My approach to your whole day is to work in a way that I’d want my own wedding to be photographed - I definitely wouldn’t want to have to stand for hours on end, whilst a conveyor belt of people line up next to me and my wife, in endless different configurations of the same family members and friends! I’m sure that if you’re still reading this far, you feel the same way too! You’ll also be pleased to hear that I shoot them in a relaxed way; I don’t whip out a tape measure to line you all up, or insist that you all stand in exactly the same way. In my opinion, hands in pockets look just great!

Whilst it’s completely your decision as to how many group shots you would like, I would normally recommend no more than 6-8, so that they don’t interrupt the flow of your day too much, meaning you and your guests can get on with the most important part of the day - having fun! We finalise the group photos you would both like well in advance of the wedding, when you complete your online questionnaire.

{What happens after the wedding?} Firstly, everything gets backed up, as soon as I get through my front door that evening! Copies are made locally, in the cloud and off-site. Can’t be too careful! Within a few days of the wedding, I then send you both a small preview of images, until your full collection is ready. ‘Officially’ your full collection should be ready within 4-8 weeks of your wedding date and I try to work as close to those 4 weeks as possible, depending on the season. Once everything is ready, you’ll receive an email containing a link to access your private, online gallery where you can download your full collection of images in both hi-res & web-ready formats. You can also order a whole host of printed products, directly from your online gallery page. Finally, I’ll also grab your postal address and, within a few, you’ll receive a nice package through the post containing some more wedding goodies!

{Can we print our own pictures?} Please do! In the age of occasionally spending too much time looking at a screen of some sort (I’m definitely occasionally guilty of that!), seeing photos in print is really, really special. You get a full license to print and share your images and I can recommend some great photo labs to use, should you want to arrange printing yourselves.

{Are you fully insured?} Alongside my full liability and indemnity insurance, I place huge importance on the security of your images. All of my cameras have dual memory card slots, so every image is independently backed up in camera, as soon as it’s captured. I then also do a full backup to a laptop when you guys sit down to eat, to ensure I have another two copies of what I’ve taken so far that day. Once I’m home, full dual backups are made, plus a copy backed up to the cloud and a further hard copy is stored off-site. In short, your images are absolutely safe and sound!

{Do we need a second photographer?} I’ve shot nearly all of my weddings solo, so all of my work that you’ve seen online has been shot solely by me. Unless you’re having a very large number guests (200+), or are getting ready very far apart in the morning, I’ve found that there’s no real need for two photographers. As I really want you and your guests to feel as relaxed as possible and to be slightly unaware that photos are being taken, my approach is to be as discrete as I possibly can. Having two photographers can sometimes upset that balance a little and you guys can end up feeling the heat of two cameras gunning you down! However, I haven’t quite cracked the secret of being able to be in two places at once, so if you would like me to source a 2nd shooter for you, then that’s absolutely no problem. Prices start from £800 and are subject to availability.

{How long do you keep our wedding image files?} I’m contractually obliged to keep them on file for 12 months but I’ve never deleted a wedding yet! The edited JPEG files are always available, so if you decide to go for an album a couple of years down the line, no problem! *

* RAW files are never, under any circumstances, made available to the client, & will be deleted after 12 months of the wedding date.
